Transformational leadership is the ideal style of management for achieving change within an organization. Change can be challenging for many employees, but effective leadership can help foster effective transformations. Change is the one constant in the policing profession and the ability to put into practice effective, lasting change is one of the most important skills a leader can possess. Without the ability to implement positive, meaningful change, a leader will always be seen as ineffective despite many other good skills and qualities. In this lesson, transformational leadership is discussed in contrast with the traditional transactional leadership styles. Very simply, transactional leaders change people’s behavior; transformational leaders change people’s beliefs so that they can make a much more lasting change to their own behavior. Students are taught the importance of influencing their followers’ beliefs and values as well as their behavior. Learning the key components of this leadership style and the qualities that ensure success can help actualize an organization’s vision and allow leaders to become a powerful influence for their employees. *Reviewing the six components of transformational leadership.

*Learning the qualities and skills used by transformational leaders to achieve successful change.
*Implementing ten strategies on how to demonstrate transformational leadership at work.
